Sech: Smart Irrigation with Soil Sensors
Concept: designed, not yet built
Key Features
- Solar-powered soil moisture nodes
- LoRa link, no SIM card per sensor
- Moisture for every field on a phone
- Automatic pump control with manual override
- Alerts in Bangla by app or SMS
- Watering history by field and season
How It Would Work
- Sense Each solar node wakes on a timer, reads soil moisture and temperature, sends them over LoRa and sleeps again.
- Relay A gateway at the farm collects the readings and forwards them over mobile data, keeping them if the connection drops.
- Decide The server compares moisture with the threshold set for each field and crop, and decides whether it needs water.
- Act The farmer gets an alert in Bangla, or the pump controller starts and stops the pump on its own, with a manual override.
Project Overview
A smart irrigation system NetJet Labs has designed for farms and nurseries: solar-powered soil moisture sensors send readings over LoRa to a gateway, and the system tells the farmer when a field needs water, or switches the pump itself, with alerts in Bangla. It is a concept: designed, not yet built.
Technologies & Expertise
The Challenge
Fields are usually watered by habit or by eye. Over-watering wastes water and the diesel or electricity that runs the pump, under-watering costs yield, and fields are often far from mains power and good mobile coverage.
Our Solution
Low-power ESP32 sensor nodes with capacitive soil moisture probes report over LoRa, which reaches across fields without a SIM card in every sensor. A gateway forwards the readings over mobile data, and an app or SMS in Bangla shows each field's moisture and can start or stop a pump through a relay.
