Pothik: School Bus Tracking with a Parent App
Concept: designed, not yet built
Key Features
- Live bus location on a map
- Board and leave notifications for each child
- Expected arrival at every stop
- Route and stop management for the school
- Speeding and route-change alerts
- Uses the school's RFID attendance cards
How It Would Work
- Track The unit in the bus reads GPS and sends the position over 4G every few seconds, storing it when the signal drops.
- Tap Children tap their RFID card at the door when they board and when they leave.
- Match The server places each position on the bus's route, works out the expected arrival at each stop and pairs taps with stops.
- Notify Parents get a push notification when their child boards and leaves, and can open the live map at any time.
Project Overview
A school bus tracking system NetJet Labs has designed: a GPS and 4G unit in each bus reports its position, an RFID card reader at the door records each child boarding and leaving, and parents follow the bus and get notified in a mobile app. It is a concept: designed, not yet built.
Technologies & Expertise
The Challenge
Parents wait at the gate without knowing whether the bus is five or forty minutes away, and schools have no simple record of which child got on or off which bus, and when.
Our Solution
An ESP32 with a GPS module and a 4G modem sends the bus's position every few seconds, and children tap the same RFID cards they use for school attendance at the bus door. The server matches positions to routes and stops, and a Flutter app shows parents the live bus, the expected arrival time and their child's trips.
