Pahara: Website Security Monitoring for Small Businesses
Concept: designed, not yet built
Key Features
- SSL certificate and domain expiry alerts
- Uptime checks every few minutes
- Outdated software matched to known vulnerabilities
- Exposed file and directory listing checks
- Page change and defacement detection
- Plain-language fixes, ranked by risk
How It Would Work
- Verify The owner proves control of the site with a DNS record or a file, so only sites they own can be checked.
- Scan Workers run light, read-only checks on a schedule: certificate, DNS, uptime, software versions, exposed paths and page content.
- Rank Each finding is matched to known vulnerabilities where it applies and ranked by risk, with the fix in plain words.
- Alert Urgent findings go out at once by email or SMS; everything else goes into a weekly report.
Project Overview
A website security monitoring service NetJet Labs has designed for small businesses and institutions: it checks a site every day for expiring SSL certificates, downtime, outdated software, exposed files and unexpected changes to its pages, and explains each issue in plain language with the fix. It is a concept: designed, not yet built.
Technologies & Expertise
The Challenge
Small businesses and schools run websites that nobody watches. Certificates expire, plugins go years without updates, backup files are left public, and a defaced page can stay up for days before anyone notices.
Our Solution
Only a site's verified owner can add it. Scheduled, non-intrusive checks then run from a queue of workers: certificate and DNS checks, uptime probes, detection of known software versions matched against public vulnerability data, and a comparison of each page with its last known version. Findings are ranked by risk and sent as instant alerts and a weekly report.
